Dr. Radhakrishnan has more than 32 years of experience in the field of Pediatric cardiology. In 1985, with an excellent academic record as an undergraduate and postgraduate student, he joined AIIMS as a Registrar in Cardiology to pursue Post Doctoral Degree (DM Cardiology). He has also worked in Guys and St. Thomas’ Trust Department of Paediatric Cardiology, London, and was an additional professor at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (1988), Lucknow.

Dr. Radhakrishnan pioneered Interventional Cardiology in the field of congenital and acquired cardiac lesions. He was instrumental in carrying out Balloon dilation of the Atrial Septum and Mitral Balloon Valvuloplasty for the first time in the world at AIIMS, New Delhi. He was honored with the ISC Oration in 2010 for outstanding contributions to Clinical and Pediatric Interventions. He has received several other awards and orations.

He serves as faculty for several colleges in India and abroad and has written over 546 articles in Indexed Journals, 617 abstracts and over 20 chapters in books. Since 1995, he has been involved in conducting workshops on echocardiography, pediatric interventions, etc. in India and abroad such as in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, etc.

Awards and Honors

• He was one of the first in the world to describe Balloon Dilation of the Atrial Septum in Transposition of Great Vessels in literature. The technique is now used extensively in both Pediatric and adult practice worldwide.

• He also first described Coil Closure of Patent Ductus Arteriosus in India. The procedure is now extensively used.
