It is a mixture of allergy, sinus infection and chemical irritation, when all these interrupt nose passage, sinusitis occurs. Mostly 3 infections are responsible for sinusitis, virus, bacteria and fungi out of which 60-70% i.e. maximum infection happens due to virus then comes bacteria with 20-30 % chances followed by fungi with 10-20%. It mostly stays filled with dust, fluid and germs.

Sinusitis can start from common cold and then it gradually increases to the intense level along with the microorganisms it sticks to the nose. According to a survey, 30-40% of the world population is suffering from Sinusitis, out of which 15% are women. It is comparatively more in big cities where pollution level is very high and hygiene is very less.

TYPES OF SINUSITIS

ACUTE OR MILD SINUSITIS - It stays for 1-2 weeks

SUBACUTE OR MODERATE SINUSITIS - It stays for 3-10 weeks

CHRONIC OR SEVERE SINUSITIS - It stays for more than 10-12 weeks

There are various possible treatment due to which sinusitis can disappear, some are below:

In the first week:

Don’t start taking antibiotics or any other medicines because pills have tons of side effects so start by doing following things:

Drink more water

Take rest

Stop smoking

Stop consuming alcohol and drugs

Start using handkerchief more

If sinusitis gets worse after 7-10 days then:

Consult a general physician

Describe in detail about your symptoms

Take the prescribed medicines

If it stays for 1 month or more:

Immediately visit an infection disease specialist or immunologist.

CHILDREN SINUSITIS ANTIBIOTICS

FOR TODDLERS ( 6MONTHS OR LESS) - Acetaminophen is recommended and this is the only safest antibiotic for toddlers suffering from sinusitis.

FOR CHILDREN ( 1-2 YRS OR MORE ) - Along with Acetaminophen you can also give Ibuprofen.

SINUSITIS NASAL SPRAYS

Use internal steroid spray.

Topical decongestants

One of the effective sprays is Budesonide.
